Department Overview

Gas Operations is on a mission to become the safest, most reliable gas company in the U.S. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

The Asset Management and System Operations (AM&SO) team is focused on identifying, mitigating and monitoring risk to ensure safe and reliable operations on PG&E's natural gas system today, and on the system of tomorrow .

We implement Gas Safety Excellence by knowing the condition of our assets, understanding the risks to those assets and implementing asset risk reduction strategies; we are responsible for 24-hour, 365 day real-time system operations and risk mitigation for the gas network, and continually strive to become more predictive and proactive in these operations; we develop strategies to optimize the use of our assets and enable work on our gas system, schedule and account for gas volumes, meet customer needs and create revenue opportunities; we support compliance in regulations around our work execution of our qualified employees; we are dedicated to preparing for and preventing gas system emergencies; and we explore system strategies and technologies of tomorrow through industry benchmarking, and research and development.

Position Summary

Leads a team of bargaining unit and professional employees responsible for providing accurate and timely asset data and data solutions to Gas Operations that enables risk and asset management. Supports and partners with the As-Built Process Owner and is responsible for the effectiveness and efficiency of process initiatives, including strategic use and deployment of technology. Supports and partners with the Asset Family Owner of Data and as such is responsible for the development of a strategic, risk-informed data management plan and framework and is a primary point of contact for all data in Gas Operations. Promotes a safety culture and ensures staff adheres to all company and regulatory practices related to records and data. Contributes to Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability through quality records and data.

Reporting Relationship

This role will report to Vice President, Gas Asset Management & System Operations

Job Responsibilities

Oversees the short- and long-term strategic direction, operating plans and work execution for AKM, including budgets, performance metrics, objectives and goals.

Oversees strategic direction and robust implementation of the As-built Process, including appropriate objectives and goals.

Provides leadership and influence with other leaders in Gas Operations to ensure effectiveness of the As-built Process.

Monitors industry trends, regulatory changes and best practices to champion effective data management policies for Gas Operations.

Coach direct reports to ensure alignment in decision-making and execution of work within the function.

Provides leadership and support for accurate and timely update of systems of record with as-built data.

Manages strategic partnership with union (ESC) through the evolution of the roles of bargaining unit employees as a result of implementation of technological solutions.

Acts as the authority for all internal and external MAOP-related matters for Gas Operations.

Provides governance and oversight of Gas Operations asset data systems of record (GT and GD GIS, ECTS and Documentum).

Background Qualifications

Minimum

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience

10 years of relevant professional experience

5 years of relevant leadership experience

Familiarity with operations with a union-represented workforce

Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent lean management experience

Experience in natural gas industry

Experience in technical writing

Familiarity with GIS and SAP Work Management

Knowledge of 49 CFR Part 192

Knowledge of operations, maintenance, and engineering program processes and procedures

Working knowledge of audit, quality control, and quality assurance practices

Excellent project and process management skills, including financial forecasting and budgeting

Analysis, written communication, and group collaboration skills with ability to lead teams and promote employee engagement
